Derby Rowing Club is located by the River Derwent at the southern end of Darley Park. Check out the map here.
Rowing takes place on the stretch of water roughly 2km long starting in the south from behind Full Street police station and continues north upstream through Darley Park up to the weir at Darley Abbey mills.
The club has a healthy membership with well over 100 active members ranging from junior girls and boys crews, novice men and women, senior men and women and veteran rowers. The club caters for rowers of all abilities and ambitions, from those aiming to compete at the highest level (Henley Royal Regatta, National Rowing Championships and Henley Women's Regatta) to those wishing to enjoy the social scene more than competing.
Rowing takes place all year round, but if it gets a little cold or wet members have access to the free weights and ergometers (rowing machines) at the club.
Coxing
If you don't fancy all of the effort of rowing but still want to be involved in the thrill of the sport you might want to consider the role of coxwain (thermals and a hat are vital in the winter!), you'll made more than welcome and will soon find that you are playing a vital role in one of the most demanding sports. Who knows you may walk away from races with medals or pots to show off without taking a single stroke.
The Social Side
The club has an active social scene with a number of events at the club throughout the year such as the Annual Meal, Christmas party, Captains party and our very own bonfire night celebrations (carefully choreographed by Midge) just to name a few. Check out the events page here.
Function Room
If you have a celebration coming you might like to consider hiring the club, which features a fully licensed bar and dance floor. Contact the bar manager (Heather Smith on 07974 553583).
